AL ZAYANI: REVAMPING OLD SOUQS WILL PUT BAHRAIN ON THE INTERNATIONAL TOURISM MAP

The old markets committee of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) has recently held its regular meeting at Bait Al Tijjar presided over by committee head and first vice-chairman Mr. Khalid Al Zayani. The meeting discussed updates regarding the old Souq development project, and stressed on the importance of holding a meeting that gathers merchants of the old souq with the Urban and Old Souqs Development Expert Mr. Hank Dittmar to share their views with regard to maintaining the identity and heritage of the souq. The committee also discussed its intention to convene the Minister of Works Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning to communicate the hurdles encountered by the visitors of old souqs and mull eliminating them. Concluding the meeting, the committee underlined the importance of old souqs and their prospect in stimulating tourism and invigorating the market.
